Dad phoned me up last night.....

Him: I wanted some advice
Me: OK
Him: Your Mum asked what I want for my birthday so I'm thinking of golf clubs....
<I pause, wonder why he's asking me about golf. I know nothing>
Him:... and I got thinking about Blu-ray but there's so many
Me: Yeah
Him: So I've seen a package where you get the 3D TV, 2 x glasses, Blu-ray player....

How the hell did he go from golf clubs to 3DTV??

That's a question for your Dad.

I had a conversation with mine recently. He's been divorced from my Mum for over 30 years and apart from child maintenance had never offered me any kind of financial support or help. Told him my boiler was broken and no hot water and asked if he could help. I got a flat no. My Mum has always helped me in any way she can and I wouldn't like to add up how much she's spent on me!

He's recently bought a mobility scooter, air rifle (what a man with bone cancer and mobility issues needs with an air rifle I don't know), numerous gadgets and has had the outhouse knocked down and rebuilt. He has so many magazines and books that you can hardly see the floor when we go there. He's only come to my house once.

And he can't even help me the one time in my adult life I have actually asked. Boyfriend was disgusted but then I've had 41 years to know what he's like.

Bah!

Sadly, I think he'll wake up too late to realise he is all alone and will come for your support. My grandparents are like that and it's really sad.

I don't know what's wrong with him. My step father was more of a Dad to me than he ever was. You can't pick your family....

But that's often a smokescreen for how bad they smell metaphorically.

I did consider it, Edd, but I also thought I'd probably just be ignored anyway, but just for you … I have anosmia, so I would really like to know what girls smell of.
