That's a good feature but I guess it's not Windows based. Or is it? I don't really have a major problem with the idea, often though I see that the utilities themselves can be updated in a new BIOS but you have to use an older utility to download it in the first place. I guess they do offer individual downloads though. Actually, I think I did use a windows based one on a Foxconn board years ago. It went fine IIRC.

I was trying to use ez flash updater from with in the BIOS as per the instructions. It reckoned BIOS v 1406 was older that 1401 so wouldn't let me upgrade. http://support.asus.com/technicaldocuments/technicaldocuments.aspx?root=198&SLanguage=en-usalso tried doing a normal flash didn't want to play. temp holding between 65 and 75 most of the time.

It is run independent of OS, the system will try to POST first. If that fails the BIOS automagically looks for a CD. The motherboard CD has (IIRC) DR DOS in the boot sector and a BIOS flash application, with a copy of the original BIOS release.

Alun, do you still have the motherboard driver CD? You can try to boot from it and roll back to the first BIOS release and then update as required. I would get the latest BIOS and your flashing method prepared beforehand though, and avoid ezflash etc.. [edit] Depending on your setup, you should enter BIOS setup as soon as the system reboots after the flash. You may have to re-select which HDD is the boot drive and re-enter memory timings etc.. (if you don't use SPD) and obviously re-apply any tweaks or overclock you may have had previously.

The current BIOS is the original that came with the board. v 1401, so I have nothing to roll back to, the BIOS 1406 that I'm trying to flash to is the newest one.
I'm trying to flash it at BIOS level not via windows.

OK. It might be worth a look at the BIOS release notes on the site, if you're still struggling. Most, but not all, updates are possible in one step. The release notes may state that 1406 can only be applied to versions 1403 and above, for instance. So, you would have to flash twice. HTH

Hi. used to be a "special" ver of asus AFUDOS floating around the net, that allowed you to flash to any bios ver. The one we used to flash the formula boards to a rampage bios, forget what it was called or where I got mine from so not a great help.
