Bond 23 should arrive in November 2012

James Bond may finally break free of MGM’s cellar after the studio’s ongoing financial woes saw his next movie outing shoved where the sun don't shine.

Now that MGM have officially filed for bankruptcy, they’re free to start planning what they’re going to do with Bond 23 – and what they want is a new movie in cinemas by November 2012.

Which gives them two years to resurrect the series, and ensure the next Bond film makes enough money to put dinner on their table for a very long time to come.

How are they going to do it? The Financial Times has all the ins and outs of the money side, but essentially MGM will own the rights of Bond 23 while another studio will fund the budget. Then, from Bond 24 onwards the series will be “wholly owned and funded” by MGM.

So will Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes come back now that MGM are seeing rainbows again?

Neither have ever officially sworn off the project, and by all accounts Mendes had a script he was working on with Peter Morgan. Craig could yet don that tux again, then...

What do you want from Bond 23? System reboot or continuation from Quantum Of Solace?

I thought that last question was very interesting, and IMO probably reflects badly on QoS (I know that can be controversial around here  )...

It's all hypothetical, but personally, I think they should carry on as is. CR was a real return to form, and that was largely due to Craig. If they can loosely carry on from QoS while starting a new thread, I think that's the way to go :)

Oh, and isn't Chapter 11 wonderful? :o

Ceased caring round about 20 minutes in to QoS, the bond series has had some classic moments, but it's always been a fairly boring, inexplicably massively popular, franchise.

Well there are no original Fleming stories left. Some of the films are expanded short stories. So a reboot might be possible.

The only Bond films that bored me were the Dalton/final Brosnan/QoS efforts, the overwhelming majority I've had no problems with :)

I think it's the right formula in the sense that it gets both sexes into the cinema...

Geez, what is it with you people?!!

Living Daylights is a great movie and Dalton certainly has an edge to him that Moore lacked and even Brosnan did at times.

Quantum is an extremely good film!!! Casino Royale is lengthy in places, the final act is ludicrously so. Take the aesthetic from both of these movies and get a new script done. What's the problem?!

But bar CR, the films themselves were widely seen as being crap, or at least that seems to be the case :|

I should point out I'm only talking about the specific films I mentioned above, and that overall, I like the Bond films and the character :)

Ok, on a 'being a good film' basis and not just a 'famous for it's villain/car/quote' basis - I enjoyed Moonraker, Dr. No, Goldeneye, License to Kill and Casino Royale. Tis about it though for me, and I wouldn't really watch any of those again.

What he said. QoS was simply awful though.

It's good that a few of us here share this point of view. (8+)

Yeah, I usually get laughed at when I say it. He was the first to play him dark, which is what bond really is.

That's my take on his Bond too.
