Rant follows...
WTF is going on with Freeview TV at the moment - seems every week a message pops up on screen to say new channels have been detected and I need to retune my TV again. This week I've already had this twice and switched on the TV tonight to be greeted again with the message - so that's three times this week (and it's only Tuesday!). Grrr.
I wouldn't mind if there was actually anything new when you've finished, but I can't see any new channels. Do you think it's the TV playing up and these messages are phantom ones, or is anyone else on Freeview constantly having to retune due to new channels being detected? I suppose the new channels could be up in the 100s, I never usually venture that far up the range.
It's double annoying as each time I have to go through and hide the crap channels that I don't want to have to scroll through - shopping ones and other sh!te. After a retune, they're back and I have to do it again!
As an aside, I read elsewhere that Channel One (the recently rebranded Virgin1) is to be removed by its new owners ($ky) and replaced with Challenge. No sign of that happening at the moment though. Some of the content currently being shown on Channel One is to move onto Sky 3. From what I read on t'Internet, Challenge seems to be just quiz shows, 24/7 - so that's something to look forward to... NOT!
There's also a placeholder page for ITV1+1 on channel 35, yeez there's never anything worth watching on ITV1+0, never mind repeating it an hour later! Freeview is absolute rubbish, but I just can't bring myself to give Murdoch money for Sky.

Are they not moving the channels about to make space for Freeview HD?

I think the last time i had to retune was a few months ago when Dave Ja Vu had a sign telling me to retune.

The box in our kitchen just doesn't hold a tune, so retuning is a daily occurrence.

I do not think that anything is going to happen around here till 2012. I cant get many channels on Freeview.

For some reason, my box always forgets all the radio stations. It's annoying, because you do lose your favourites when you rescan. I don't use it often enough to be that bothered though.
I do like my box though, because unlike many more expensive boxes and sets I've seen it does a picture-in-picture while you're checking what's on. Most boxes turn off the sound and picture while you're checking the other channels. Seriously WTF? Even my old analogue set didn't do that 20 years ago with Teletext!!

I've not had any message to re-tune. Maybe it's just for your area?

Quite possibly, but I wish they'd just do it in one go. Maybe that's why I can't see anything new as mine isn't a Freeview HD tuner, just the standard Freeview?

We had two retunes late last year - one for switching standard analogue off and one for switching freeview HD on. Between the two, the list of channels you could see on a freeview box was somewhat... variable. Jon
