OK,

My sister phoned me to tell me she's booked a track day for me, in any one of the above cars, as a xmas prezzie.

The thing is, I have to lose weight beforehand or I won't be allowed in the car.

Fair enough, I don't have any problems so far.

But which of the cars in the poll is most worth losing weight for?

Over to you peeps.

Either the Ferrari or the Lambo. Lambos are crazy to drive but Ferraris have the badge-prestige.

DB9/Vantage/R8 only if I was able to drive it for a weekend. They're not track toys IMO.

Quite. The Astons are tourers. They're about throwing some luggage in the boot and heading off to the country for the weekend, it just takes you half the time to get there as it would in a normal car :). They're not at all about hitting the apexes of corners and that. The Ferraris have the badge prestige but are erm.. how can I say it.. a bit dull? Certainly I'd much rather have a go in a 430 than either of those two. I'd take the Lambo. A track day is about driving the loudest, lairiest, craziest car you can get your hands on and really that's the Lambo out of that crowd.

Yeah, I have to admit, I'm not a huge fan of Ferrari, although I don't dislike them, but if a 430 was on the list I wouldn't have posted this thread. As mentioned, are they perhaps a little boring compared to the others?

Still, not having driven any of these before (I have been a passenger in a DB9, briefly), I though it was worth canvassing opinion. I like the idea of driving a Vantage, but I hadn't considered it as a tourer in the same way as a DB9.

The R8 is a curiosity but, if I'm going to have a go in a jumped up VW, I may as well go for the Lambo; which looks like a beast and a half.

The thing about the R8 is every review I've seen/read of it says "Oh, it's just like a normal car, only it goes really fast. Anyone could drive one." In fact, isn't the R8 review the one where Top Gear replaced Clarkson in the driving seat with a labrador as a joke? I have a feeling the R8, while a brilliant car, is too 'nice' to pick as a choice for a 'once in a lifetime' driving experience.

Out of interest Spreadie, and if this is too personal a question feel free to tell me so, but what's the limit on the weight issue for these day out things? Is there a specified maximum weight or do they just look at you and say 'you're not going to be safe in the seat unless you lose a few pounds'?

The limit is 16 stone. I weigh... more than 16 stone. ;)

Just think "egg on legs" :D

I chose the Lambo. Had some other's been on the list (599 GTB, F430) I'd have gone with Ferrari.

I've taken 430 round Thruxton. My friend took a Cayman round on the same day.
We both agreed on one thing - cars that expensive flatter your driving. They're all semi-auto flappy paddle affairs so you're never going to have to juggle the clutch and change gear. Modern supercars are all easy to drive.

Fecking marvellous! I add a pie option and it resets the poll? WTF?

At last count I think it was:

DB9 = 2
F360 = 1
Lambo = 6
R8 =1

Are any mods able to update this?

Anyway - I was on phone earlier and text entry is a PITA.
Drive the Lambo. Lambo's are by their very nature silly cars. Fezzas' are a bit refined. There's no sense of silliness. Speed, refinement, beautiful engineering, yes. But the Lambo has all that, but turned up to 11.
The R8 is bigger than I though it would be, but I'd still like a go. It does look a bit special.

I don't drive, but there's something about the R8 that fascinates me, no idea why :oops:
