As VAT will be going up in January next year, I was wondering if anyone here was considering a big spend before then?

Yes. Only it won't happen due to lack of money. Still, it looks like I'll still be VAT registered by then, so I can claim any VAT back if it's the right kind of purchase...

Still *considering* a new PC/upgrades. But I don't really need it, and should probably use that money for something less gadgety and more useful/productive/interesting.

I'm considering a bigger TV.
I've only had the "old" 26" LCD for about 7 years, compared to over 20 years for my previous second hand 22" CRT... but it seams to have *shrunk* horribly in that time, and new ones are more efficient. I'd quite like an LED one with built in HD freeview, and I'm lucky enough to be able to afford it if only I can decide on which one is best. I'm definitely not buying another TV after this in my life time!!
I want 40" or larger, full 1080p, the highest refresh rate possible for various reasons, Freeview HD to reduce the number of remotes and boxes, legacy PC inputs, line in and out and most importantly PIP on the program guide. My budget is ~£500 but flexible if there's a damned impressive reason. I'd pay a lot more for one that does 3D porn so realistic that you don't need specs and it actually sucks your c...

JJ, IMO you're asking a lot. And I don't mean about the fellatio part.
£500 would buy you a SUPERB 32, maybe 37. But at 40, it'll be MOR and if it's the last TV you'll ever buy, I don't think you really want that.
