Good, because I'd not like to become boring and predictable all the time. (8+)

One might find Bratty's quote rather gay, in a homosexual sense

Well, never fear that you'll ever need to dumb yourself down to be understood here. (8+)

I'm beginning to see why it is that you can be quite cranky and uptight sometimes.... :p Maybe you need to let off steam every now and again, as it were. This will probably go over your head.

Friendship is a funny thing. In a strange kind of way I consider this forum, and the people here a friend. Whenever I disappear for a while (as I have done recently) and then come back, when I do return I get the same feeling as when I meet up with an old friend - we pick up just where we left off. :)

I'm glad there's a thread on this at the moment, though. I'm currently going through that struggle of losing my best mate to a girl. They've been an item for a couple of years, and at first my strategy was to be good mates to both of them which worked great and I stayed in the loop.

But about nine months ago he moved into her place and I've literally not heard anything of him since - not a single text/phone call/e-mail. Back in the late summer I made a real effort - I won some radio 1 big weekend tickets and phoned him (for the first time in aaaages) to invite him. We both went along and had a good time, and at the end of the weekend it was left that he would phone me in the next week and we would go for a pint and he'd pay me some money (for the hotel room, and petrol - total of about £100) but I haven't heard anything since.

I haven't phoned him either, but right now I'm (still) feeling quite annoyed, and tbh I'm getting more annoyed about it. Primarily because I feel a bit used (and I'm not talking about the money, although it is a factor) - I hear literally nothing of him until I ring him and offer him a great weekend away, which we both enjoyed, and then afterwards he buggers off into obscurity again. The fact that he owes me money just tops it all off.

This is a guy who has been my best mate since the age of 14, and it hurts! I remember when he first met this girl, we would talk about her for hours and I remember him saying when things got serious between them that if they ever married I'd be the best man. Right now I don't know if I'd want to be his best man - I feel like he would just be using me for that too :?

This, and that a friend is someone you may not speak to in a long time, but when you do it was as though you last spoke yesterday.

+1.

I have mates who I went to uni with. We all went to work in different parts of the coutry but two or three times a year, we all meet up and have dinner together. Each time, within minutes of meeting up, we're ribbing each other and cracking juvenile jokes (usually about each others' mothers) - just like at uni! I have colleagues at work who I get on with and eat lunch with but never has conversation ever deteriorated to the same level.

I had lots of friends at uni but pretty much drifted away from almost all of them - the closest friends are the ones I've remained in contact with, a few I might exchange texts with but the rest I've not spoken to since uni. This has been accelerated since I quit using facebook.

Bratty, true/close friends are friends who you will stay in contact (almost) forever. All other friends are people who you meet and then drift apart from.
