An anti-X Factor "supergroup" is getting together to record its entry in the race for this year's Christmas number one - the sound of silence.

Orbital, Imogen Heap and Pete Doherty are among those who will do nothing in a recording studio in London on Monday.

They will be recreating composer John Cage's experimental work 4'33", the sound of an orchestra not playing.

Cheers, I'll have a read at that later - first sensible thing Doherty's done in years :o

True, but so is being dragged naked through a field of broken glass. :D

I know I'm being picky, but these disruption attempts are just as contrived as the x-factor number ones.

As little as I like Rage Against the Machine, I respect the fact that they are actually a proper band/group, and not some manufactured twaddle, incessantly churning out middle of the road insipid dross in place of real music; but they only achieved their success last year because someone chose them for the facebook campaign. It could just as easily have been the crazy frog!

They're a bit slow. There's already a Facebook group trying to get Family Guy's Bird Is The Word to number one for Xmas.

...amongst various other efforts. The anti-X-Factor effort is so divided this year that X-Factor will probably regain the Christmas number 1 this year.

Yes but will they have to pay royalties for copying the song? :D
