I know. I've seen it happen where I'm at, so I know first hand that this does indeed happen.
I'd be okay with it if they wanted me back on a part-time basis, but I can't see that happening.
There's more and more operational duties being taken over from the Dublin HQ - I guess they want to safeguard their jobs by killing off our jobs.

Well wages are falling in Ireland so they might think that they can have lower costs by taking operations back to Dublin. That said I was looking at rentals in Ireland and they are getting cheap.

Generally speaking that's a sign you're dehydrated (the kidneys get irritated because they don't have enough water to work with). However in your case I suspect that's not the problem  .

There was a 17 week old kitten in the pub last night wandering about. I threw a wobbly at the bar staff and they said oh it lives here. I was worried the poor mite would get out. Last time I saw it he/she was hiding in a shelf unit.

Is that wrong or is it just me?

That's pretty much what kittens do IMO, I wouldn't worry about it.

What was it wondering about? I would have thought that a 17 week year old kitty involved in some sort of philosophical engagement at your local would be the least of your worries.

It's probably thinking 'if I hide in the shelf unit, will I then be alive or dead?'

Local government blah blah...

I work in Local Government so I know it's not what it's made out to be. Yes there's waste and yes things can (and will) change but on the whole at my place the majority of people are hard workers.

The issue I have are with those who entered a job years ago and essentially signed up for life. Yet when things move on they remain static. Their skills dont grow or develop, their role is made to fit and they stay seated in the same job whilst their career graded salary goes up each year.

If I use a personal example there's a chap here who's on 11 years of service. Because of the career grade he is now on just over 32k. This guy though is what I would call a basic pc desktop guy. Sure he picks new things up from time to time but if he were to leave here and go into the private sector then desktop work is all he could expect. He ought to be on half his salary.

On the otherhand I havent been here half as long so I'm not paid nearly as much. I working with new technology though on a small team (but huge project) implementing a new Citrix/Thin Client infrastructure and will soon (hopefully) get my CCA.

There are plenty of others like me too. I think it's the other sort that ought to be gotten rid of. For all the stick the Public Sector gets though these so-called 'benefits' have been slowly erroding since my time here. The pension is not what it once was, Single Status destroyed a lot of people's salaries, pay rises have been capped and there's constant redundancies and job threats.

As for this, IMHO everybody knows this is what local government is like. So just don't go there. Get a job in the private sector OR adjust your expectations and KNOW that the system is unfair. In my experience, people with 3+ years start stagnating, because they can.

Oh and Dan, I know you were, but I'm so used to being outspoken that I over laboured the point. The first sentence of your quoted section was a sort of acknowledgement of your agreement :D
I get bored easily too. Problem is, I don't have any qualifications and I get every job by blagging and the seat of my pants. I learn a lot more that way.

As has been seen elsewhere on this forum, I'm missing what's right infront of my face this week. :D
