Bollocks. I have a "modified" policy, driving a group 16 car with 75% more power, I have points for phone use, and only 5yrs NCB. I'm paying £250 excess and only £460 including 3rd party in any other vehicle, European cover and £500 audio cover.

What's the first bit of your postcode Oli?

Doubt it

'00 Audi A4 1.8T Sport cost me 3p more annually to insure than my '97 Accord 1.8
Current insurer thought it was an A4 1.8T and hiked up the premium by something like £50 until I corrected them on the car

It's a lot about how likely the car is to be involved in an accident, the cost of associated repairs, crime in the area and how likely that kind of car is to have an aftermarket mod that wasn't declared

I'm paying a bit under £700 but that is due to having 2 no fault accidents on my policy in the past 2 years, one of which is still being resolved (sorted the replacement car, in the middle of the personal injury settlement still 2 months on) (coming up for 3 years ncb)

Age is usually the main factor, as it's a flat % increase, under 18 get it worst, then 21, then 25 then 30 IIRC (as an example to get insured on a hire car in the USA the mandatory excess for a driver under 25 was more than the hire was)

Mine's gone up by £100 to £530 with Swiftcover but it's still the cheapest around.

I pay about £250 a year, on a classic policy, so I'm limited to 6k miles. It's actually slightly less than the MX-6 was, both are fully comp.
I actually kinda wish someone would dinkle the front passenger wing so I can claim on their insurance for the work to get done... The wings are only like $50 each, but by the time you've paid for the shipping to the UK, you've easily tripled that. Which is a PITA.

There is one other insurance company I didn't try which is lv.com

Maybe will try them when I get the Internet working here.

It doesn't help these days that cars are more expensive to repair. What with colour coded bumpers, light units, crumple zones etc. it is the damage you cause to other cars, not what you drive that is part of the problem.

I'm paying 550 a year on a group 19, with 9 points including business driving, which I'm pretty happy with!

Just checked and the 1-20 grouping has changed, I'm group 35 now, which as it goes up to 50 is better.

I was with Swift cover but the renewal invitation was a joke.

I tried Go Compare and Confused - both are utter sh!te.

I went with LV in the end - best price for the same cover as everyone else. I'm moving in a couple of weeks too, so I rang them yesterday. I told them the car will be parked on the street outside the house, as opposed to a private courtyard currently, and they knocke dthe price down!

Hastings Direct? They undercut Direct Line by quite a bit for me this year.

Everywhere is a joke on renewals, I called them and got £100 off my policy as I could save £150 elsewhere but would give them the option to match it
(The offer was only £50 better but there was the potential for cashback, I'd take £100 guaranteed over £50 guaranteed + £100 possible any day)

Yeah, I called them too. LV still beat them by nearly £100.

They did email me after the fact and asked why I didn't stay with them. Like the phone conversation, where they gave me a better deal than the renewal, but ultimately still a sh!t rate, never happened.

When I first found them, last year, I thought they were a breath of fresh air. When I phoned them a month ago, they didn't seem remotely interested in retaining me as a customer.

From memory I think I'm paying £800 for a 10 month policy. A bargain compared to the year before!

When I renew in a few months time I'll be 22 and two years no claims so I'm expecting it to be about £500.

Hmmm, middle of the road. Not as cheap as down here, but hardly a bad risk. I was worried you were in one of the hideous Leeds postcode areas.

My insurance is up in a few weeks. Some of the quotes I have been getting are ridiculous. My renewal quote is £466 which is much more than I paid last year. The cheapest so far is £359. Some places are quoting me over £700! I have not paid that much since I passed my test.

Extortion and nothing else.
