I get constant requests to upgrade the security of my facebook account. They suggest put in another email address and phone numbers. I already have a 20 digit randomly generated password, which I will be changing shortly and upgrading to 30 digits or higher if I can. I think that is enough.

By whom? I can't think of any time I've been requested to upgrade my Fb security. Mark

Facebook asked me the other day to "verify" my mobile number as a security precaution, in addition to setting up some "secret" questions and answers.

I haven't committed suicide but I have stopped using FB for something like two years now. I may delete my account someday.

I'm considering dropping the thing in the new year.

Yes that was what it keeps asking me. I have not given it a single number to start with, so no need to add another.

It's bollock all to do with security, it's Facebook on a fishing mission to get juicy personal data they can profit from. *&%$& 'em.

Exactly why I have failed to upgrade my account to the new profile either.

Me too. Still hoping I can quit one day. Although that would require my less privacy concious acquaintances to use other means to stay in touch, and presently that's unlikely.

All that the new profile does is make it easier for people to input their information. There's nothing forcing you to do so. Mark

Wait a second, are you saying that Facebook isn't evil Mark? Their every action isn't solely concieved to undermine all that is good and pure?

Facebook Facebook is. It is what it is. I have a problem with it, but many people don't. It's a free market and not everyone is the same. Lots of people watch East Enders. I do not. That isn't shocking or bad, it's just that I prefer other stuff. I killed my Facebook, but I still have my MySpace which I absolutely love :edit: not all MySpace users have an IQ below 200

Problem with MySpace is most users seem to think cramming as much pointless crap onto their page is something worth aiming for. One of FB's strengths is that these days, it's a fairly minimalist approach. They briefly had pages filled with this app or that app, but that's seemingly behind them now. And jolly good too. Although I still wish my Garth Marenghi quotes were more visible.
