It's been exactly two weeks since I posted in this thread, so I think it's time for more moaning about my buggy computer system!

Firstly, the awful picture quality when connected to my television has corrected itself now, with no intervention necessary whatsoever. I just woke up the other day and it was a perfect picture!

Unfortunately, I now have another problem. When starting the computer up for the first time of the day, 95% of the time I get an error something along the lines of "Your recent overclocking attempt has failed. Please press [Del] to restore the BIOS to its default settings". The computer then restarts itself about ten times and eventually boots okay.

I am positive that no component of the computer is overclocked in any way and have reset my BIOS manually to make sure of this. How do I fix this error message please?

I had that problem a few years ago and I tracked it down to the mobo incorrectly defining the speed/timing on the ram. After I changed it all was well.

Try putting the RAM (if you're using 2 sticks in dual channel) into the slots below them. IE in the blue or whatever slots instead of the red.

Also, what board is it? You could try a BIOS update...

My BIOS is set to the same speed as the RAM. Do I need to change that?


Unfortunately, I have four sticks of RAM, so I don't think that's possible I've recently run a very long memory test on them and all passed with flying colours.

IIRC it was all to do with the spd. The bios wanted to do one thing until i set it to get the timings from the spd (god im dredging this from the darkest reaches of my memory!!).
After this all was well....well until my gf at thetime dropped acup of hot coffee onto the base unit )
