I've tried:

RockPlayer - only limited support for audio and no subtitle support, FAIL! It's the best I've found though; at least it plays the actual video!

ES VideoPlayer and mVideoPlayer - just won't play anything I've got at all.

I'm on a HTC desire HD.

Typical file format is Matroska H264 with Flac audio and ASS subtitles in multiple fonts.

Subtitle support is the primary requirement. I can probably live with no audio!

Any recommendations apart from spending over 9000 years converting my 10TB collection into a different format? I had to do that on my Nokia 6300 and it was an enormous pain; basically I could never be bothered.

What I really want is something like VLC, but I installed that and don't understand it at all :s

Thank you :)

Thanks Fin,

That does play the video and audio, but unfortunately doesn't support the embedded subtitles. There is a subtitle option, but I think it only supports them as a separate text file the same as Rock.
