Surprised nobody has mentioned this, given the strong feelings there are towards companies who try and avoid paying tax. Seems footballers aren't entirely stupid.

It is a scam and they are clearly going to be doing well under a conservative government who plan to cut taxes on businesses. Tony Blair is a business and I doubt that he pays anywhere near the tax he should for the same reasons.

I don't really blame them.
50% income tax is a robbery!

Not on that scale of income - or do they need more diamond encrusted toilet roll holders?

I was thinking about what some of the wives/girlfriends/prostitutes would spend on clothes alone

To be fair, their pay is ridiculous.

Funnily enough I was speaking to someone about excecutive pay the other day. They object to the 50% tax rate and also any kind of limit on executive pay. They particularly didn't like the idea of pay being capped at 10x what the lowest full-time person in that company earns. E.g £18,000 means the CEO gets £180,000 etc.

I asked if anyone in this country would struggle to live on even £100,000, the answer was no. So what's wrong with taxing and/or limiting ridiculous levels of pay?

The simple fact is that in this country, if you have a certain amount of accumulated wealth, you'll discover the banks offer you vastly better interest rates than the rest of us, so you're making more money on the money you've got stashed, added to the fact you can now afford to employ clever people to help you dodge taxation, or as I like to think of it, paying the nation that's helped you into your luxuriant position.
If you earn ridiculous amounts of money, be prepared to be taxed. Simple. Nobody needs a footballers income.

If you think the system is working, ask someone who isn't...

Rubbish the problem is that they cannot be arsed to use the government services except in emergency. In Sweden they have high taxes but excellent services. People do not mind about the taxes. It is a matter of getting value for money, which I will admit that we do not necessarily get here. Personally I prefer higher income taxes and scrapping as many stealth taxes as possible. That would be much faire and cheaper to collect.

Neither can I!
I needed to see a dentist because my filling fell out. Do you think I managed to find an NHS one? I did, but got offered an appointment in 14 days time
I called a private one and was seen straight away. I cost me £170 but I didn't have to live with a hole in my tooth for two freaking weeks!

So don't freaking tell me about value for money because I am not getting it!!!

Just a thought - there'd be more money in the system if folk like Rooney paid the tax they owed, instead of finding all the loopholes known to man and beast.

Yes but many dentists have a private practice as well so will see you immediately if they know that they cant persuade you to go private. Serious conflicts of interest.

Were you registered with the NHS dentist or not? I've been going to the same dentist for years and when I lost a filling the week before Christmas I was seen the next day and charged £16.
