Leaked iPad2 case hints at larger speaker and rear facing camera (I guess we'll have to wait for iPad 3 for a front facing camera ) http://www.computerandvideogames.com/ar ... ?id=282148

It would be silly for Apple not to include a front-facing camera, especially if they decide to put Facetime on it.

I can't imagine how a camera would work with a machine that can be rotated 360° and still work. And who wants to see up your nose, because that's the view you'll get most often.

Exactly the same that it works on any mobile phone. I've said this before and I'll say it again now, Id feel a right berk going around with an iPad trying to take photos on it. To me it makes much more sense to have a front-facing camera and omit the rear one altogether. Mark

But a phone can be held out at arm's length. Doing that with an iPad would be quite tiring. I wonder if Apple are working on a camera that works with the iPad's bluetooth or wifi, so it can be placed anywhere in the room without being physically attached to the machine itself. I'd be thinking along those lines, rather than fit a camera into the unit, and then have all the extra clumsiness of the motion sensors to ensure the picture remained right side up no matter how it was rotated. Oh, wait a minute... http://www.joyoftech.com/joyoftech/joya ... /1486.html

The software already exists for the rotation of the images, so that shouldn't be any sort of problem. Apple did away with the external iSight (boooo hisss) ages ago, ever since they've all been internal. I can't see it going and doing a wireless camera after all this time, plus it'd be an extra bit of kit you'd have to carry about with you if you were moving location. Nah, if there's a camera then I personally think it'll be an internal one.

I think that Facetime will be on the new iPad. Though it might appear that the high resolution might be missing this time around.

The best confirmation yet that the second version of the iPad will have a front facing camera recently came from Apple itself. Mark

The cynic in me is wondering what they'll leave off this years model so they can release a new one next year?

Yes I think that that is likely. It might add a lot to the cost as well. Maybe in another upgrade.

I'm expecting iPad2 to be more of an incremental upgrade like an iPhone 3Gs - processor & memory bump, camera(s), maybe on-board SD slot a-la-MacBook Pros (prob. restricted to photo ingestion) but otherwise minor tweaks relatively speaking, putting in all the odds and ends that were left off the first version and that analysts predicted would clearly hamper it's widespread adoption as the tablet of choice, lol. The more I read about 'retina' displays at iPad sizes, the less likely it seems to me that we'll see anything of that res. until iPad 3 in what, 2012? Happy to be proved wrong of course Pete
