No it has been a godsend to the coalition because Ed Balls is now shadow Chancellor. He had more involvement with the previous labour policy that Johnson did so makes an easier target politically. Though he is also much more aggressive in parliament so will make Osbourne look out of his depth.

You say that, but Johnson had made several high profile gaffs. The Tories could easily have made more of his lack of knowledge over the coming years.

Yes he was wrong for the job. Not knowing NI rates is not a problem, even MIchael Portillo admitted if he had been asked when he was in the Treasury he would not have known. Though having no idea of economics was a major problem.
