Apple's Giving its Customers a New Kind of Screw This is just too funny not to be mentioned http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/ifixit-ph ... 34860.html

I'm sure it won't be long before the screwdrivers become available to purchase.

What? It's a pentalobe screw. And iFixIt have a kit to sell replacing them with Phillips headed screws. Hence all the brouhaha about them at the moment. MacUser pointed them out back in October. News doesn't have to be new, it just needs to be new to the masses.

Thank you for enlightening us with your invaluable contribution to this thread Exactly! The majority of this world doesn't follow apple pcs close enough to know as much as an average macuser reader so it is entirely possible that this might be a news for some us. Not to mention a source of amusement

This is true. But, all this attention is purely off the back of a press release from iFixIt saying 'buy our screwdrivers'. So how much of a deal is it really, or is there noise being generated over nothing?

OH MY GOD! Apple are stopping me from potentially f*cking up my Apple product and thereby voiding any warranty I might hold!?

Cut the head and use a flat-blade screwdriver.
What's the issue?

If the screw are recessed then that would be difficult

True enough However, if you buy a device that's sold as a sealed unit, you can't then moan that you can't get in it. If you're likely to want to get inside it, you don't buy the sealed unit. If I want to load Linux onto a computer, I take care not to buy a computer that can't run Linux. If I live on a remote farm and can only store diesel, I don't buy a vehicle with a petrol engine. If I'm allergic to coconut, I don't buy Bounty bars. If I want to able to buy cheap spare keys, I don't buy a lock whose keys can't be copied. If I'm disabled and want to be able to happily wheel myself around my home, I don't buy a Grade II listed five-storey Georgian town house. It's called consumer choice - if you don't like it, don't buy it.

Or....OMG, Apple are denying me access to a device that belongs to me, not them.
