I agree, I'd rather not know who it is as it adds to the mystery of "The Stig".

It's good for speculation though :D

Even Jake Humphrey was guessing at a couple of people.

TBH though it'll prob be some fairly unknown GP2 or Touring car driver/ex-driver.

I'd rather not know but I like the secrecy surrounding who it is. It's adds something to the character IMO. And there's nothing wrong with speculating/guessing who it is as it's fun. If it wasnt they wouldnt bother to do it.

Although the last reveal was a little disappointing.

I thought it was okay, but nothing more than that.

The road trip specials are the main reason I still watch, because catching a normal episode that is truly entertaining is becoming rarer every year.

^^ Pretty much exactly how I feel.

Can I just ask : what do you lot watch it for?
Not being a petrol head myself, I don't watch it for the cars - though there's some that I do quite like the look of from time to time, for me it's just an hours entertainment.
I like the production values and the treatment the show gives to it's various segments - disappointed by the rolling shutter last night as that's dead easy to fix in post.
So yeah, just an hour diversion from stuff for me.
You?

It never really interested me either. Who ever it is would have had to been a good driver who ever they were. It is not as if they have any lines to say.

What's a rolling shutter?

I just like the show as a general chat/entertainment show.

Production wise I did notice a boom mic sneaking into the shot when Hammond was doing the Porsche thing.

It's when cheap sensors fail to scan the image correctly.

I like it for the cars as well. The location shots make it for me. The Romanian road to nowhere was excellent and the super cars trying to get out of a paris garage was another.

Though regarding the boom mic with hammond the reason might be due to the fact that he is on the short side and the camera mount could not go any lower. ;)

The cars do interest me, not that I can afford any of them, but I like them nonetheless.

I see it as a televised lads mag, which is fine, but the pranks are getting a bit stale.

Maybe they need to change the line-up and bring in a new personality. Hamster is starting to get particularly annoying, especially his girly midlife crisis dress sense and hairstyles, not to mention the aforementioned worship of all things 911.

That plane should be flying backwards.

I watch like yourself, for diversion. If I miss epsiodes then meh, I'll not be bothered to watch on iPlayer. If I watched for motoring value then I'd be disappointed I think.

I think that if you related it to the scale of another subject, then it would be like watching fetish/bestality/gay porn rather than heterosexual lovemaking.

;)

I enjoyed it, and it was interesting to see the total love for Skoda given their previous comments on the marque.

I’m finding it a bit stale now. I like the way the show looks and the way its put together, but the formula has become well worn and it needs a kick up the arse.

I was hoping that they had ditched the Stig for Tiff Needell, if only to bring in a fourth face to bounce off the other three.

Juvenile but nevertheless best bit of the show - the traced path Clarkson 'drew' on the satnav using the Yeti's gps path tracking feature...

IMO, Tiff isn't 'different' enough to fill that roll - in terms of pure presentation and journalism, he's not that much different to Clarkson. Plus part of the fun of them testing fast cars is they're actually not all that good drivers, so you get running gags like James May substituting drivers (like Tiff this week) whenever he has to do speed related tests. I don't see what Tiff would really add to the studio segments to be honest with you.

I do agree it's all feeling rather 'been there done that but I don't think just adding in a new presenter is the solution, because the format is what's become stale as much as three presenters have. To be honest, what might do a bit more good is changing the back room staff for new blood - after all, they're the ones who come up with the ideas and write the scripts, all Clarkson, May & Hammond do is say what's on the autocue.
