The elephant in the room is population. We are approaching 7 billion people on the face of this rock, which can’t support those numbers.
Instead of bitching and moaning about dwindling fuel supplies and how to control an ever growing population’s grab for them, maybe the solution is to limit the population somehow and try to reduce it.

Mass culling and enforced sterilisation is never popular with the populace. The population has doubled in my lifetime. To put things back the way they were in just 1970 you'd have to kill everyone under the age of 25. To return to pre-industrial levels, you'd have to kill 99.99% of the planet.

But think of the carbon footprint it would save... once youve killed off enough people of course  There was a report recently about how Ghengis Khan had a measurable impact on the carbon footprint of his era by butchering his way to a large empire.

either that or a decent plague - we need virus's that cause Bird Flu, the Common Cold and Ebola to merge - that would / should kill off the good propotion of thr wolrds popultation .... heads into attic to start mixing things in test tubes
