I know someone who has built one into his car. He’s got a multi-media radio/DVD player screen which pops out, and he’s wired the spare screen up to a small PS2.

To be honest, I bought mine when they first came out and paid quite a bit more than that for it....still think it was a bargain with the amount of use it gets. The missus and I routinely buy blu-ray movies, so it is on pretty much every night and every day. If the 360 had that much use when I bought one, I'd probably be on my 8th right now. The PS3 may be big, but at least it isn't yellow/off-white! It looks good next to the sky box and the black TV!

Ok, now that's pretty cool, but not achievable by many people. Still can't really understand the point of them. Prof, yes, you might want something that sits nicely next to your DVD player, but does it make that much of a difference? (Serious question, I've never seen a slimline anything, and certainly not one side by side with the original model)

Ok - supposing you have a little stack of tech going on under your TV. Maybe a DVD, Sky box. The slim PS 2 measures 9.06" x 1.10" x 5.98". This is down on the original PS 2 measures 12" x 3 1/8" x 7 1/4"
The PS3 is really big - I can't imagine anyone thinking a slim one is a bad idea.

Supposedly it's now "real" but Sony won't be announcing it at E3 just because they don't want people hesitating to buy the big PS3. clickyIMO it's a bad idea if that's so. I can see why Sony are doing it but in my situation if i didn't know about the slim PS3 i probably wouldn't buy the large PS3 and go fro a dedicated bluray player. I've already got my 360 for gaming and whilst i like the home media server etc. aspect of the PS3, the size for it to be first and foremost a bluray player and *then* a gaming machine (that i'd only play every now and then) just wouldn't be worth it.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea at all. But why didn't they just make the original one smaller?

It's refinement in technology. Over time they learn how to make the chips smaller (what isn't needed) therefore allowing for a smaller model. THe ps2 slimline didn't have HDD ability so I didn't get one (my orginal ps2 had a 160GB HDD in it full of games to save keep changing discs in the car)

If it sorts out the ridiculous Blu Ray laser issues, then it'll be worth it's weight in gold. When mine busted, I phoned up (outside warranty) and the guy I spoke to agreed that my details might as well have been scripted. He still fixed it for free too (woohoo!) I started out as the only one in my group of friends with one....now everyone but 1 has a PS3, and the last holdout is someone who just doesn't play games at all, and he's still getting one this summer. Once people realise that games is about 1/10th of what a PS3 is good for then it will sell better. Hopefully as HD telly becomes more popular, and the PSTV gadget covers HD, then the PS3 will become the heart of a HD enabled home. I wonder if they could make a new PS3 with HD PSTV built in?
