Try the Australian take on the same ep. It's 90 minutes and cut quite differently, like a proper special, not just a VT in a normal show.

Much better!

I must admit that I am often cringing at least as much as I am laughing and gasping/gaping in awe these days.

Going back to the Skoda Yeti, frankly I am horrified at the tattoo stunt and the tattoo artist flaming stabbed himself with a used needle

The XJ220 van, awesome and a major surprise. The "Australian" dual control cars- tbh, a little sad and pathetic really- I wanted the Aussies to win.

I think that the reason I continue to enjoy the program is that I don't expect any better these days, but I do sometimes wonder if they'll ever sink so low that the only way must be up or out.

They do have some truly awesome- and hardly at all cheesy- specials, and I have seen the Botswana one at least six times and am almost prepared to watch it again the next time it is on. The team have some some absolutely amazing experiences, no matter how much that we see is set up/scripted (or not)

Some brief internet sleuthing tells me the Transit was a test mule for the XJ220 - it could be driven in daily traffic without being spotted. It's an XJ220 with a Transit body. It was built to get real road miles onto the XJ220, and was, apparently, taken home at the weekends by one of the techs.

I got the impression that Jezza was making a point of testing the boundaries after the Andy Gray/Richard Keys thing.
He has been quite outspoken in his disgust at the sacking of Gray.

I really can't see the Beeb supporting them over that publicly :) , though aren't the Beeb supposed to vet most things before broadcast these days after Brand/Wossy?

iPlayer has Top Gear listed in with the factual programs. That's as much a [LIFTED] joke as the episode itself.

Problem is that if you put your foot down, you may find what was in the back of the van isn't in the back of the van anymore and is lying in the road somewhere...

this is how my old comic books portrayed mexicans, sleeping against a wall with a big sombero? hat and a towel thing over them sleeping in the hot sun,

The presenters, known for their edgy jibes, then described Mexican food as "refried sick".

That's because they didn't slag off the car, they slagged of the entire nation of people, using stereotypes as their weapon of choice.
