There are some films which really really should not be touched because the original is as good as it gets. I’m sure we can name a number of remakes which were poor imitations of the originals. Well, you can add another to the list. A classic which redefined a genre, and turned space ship crews into low ranking company operatives, and made a certain Swiss surrealist very popular. If the rumours are true, Alien will get a reboot. http://scifiwire.com/2009/05/is-the-ori ... en-the.php

OK, clam down. Personally, my favourite was the second one - Aliens, so I really couldn't care less if they re-made Alien, you never know it might be half decent

Nooo Alien was much better. It all got a bit silly in the later films. The alien popping out of John's stomach will always be a classic scene.

Alien help define sci-horror suspense. A great story done justice by an awsome director. It was just spiffing.
Aliens is just an action derivative film. Good as it is, its not a patch on the original.

It’s easy to forget the impact that the movie had and is still having. I had to Google that—you learn something every day and one for the list of famous Swiss. It’s a much harder parlour game than famous Belgians.

What a pointless waste of time and money. The film is still awesome, always will be. What I'd love is some of that money going into a Gundam movie instead.

I'd love to see some of that money going in to another Evil Dead film. Mark

The Director’s Cut of both films really adds to them both. In Alien, you get a bit more background on the crew, and there are a couple of scenes which when you see them, you know why the crew are acting as they are. When saw this cut at the cinema a few years back, it was a “ahhh... that explains a lot” moment. In Aliens, you get Newt’s family background, and most importantly, you see Hadley’s Hope as a living breathing colony with loads of people. The pace is relentless, but is punctuated with more personal moments for the lead characters, and this serves to add more dimension. Aliens is a very different film to Alien – Cameron recognised that the surprises of the original film had gone, and so he did a very well made action film. I liked this as much as Alien. A few minutes rescued from the cutting room floor makes all the difference. Oh, for those who care, Alien Resurrection (Alien 4) was written by Joss Whedon. All seemed to be going well story wise until the end, when it all turned Buffy. I saw the first AVP film, but not the second. Somehow, I felt that much had been ruined in the Alien universe with the first of those two.

The badness of Alien: Resurrection is only surpassed by the badness of Alien 3...
Aliens is definitely the best of the 4.

The director’s cut is again a very different film. The sound in places is [LIFTED], and that]s because the inserted bits were never finished, but the story is the original screenplay. If you have read the novelisation of the film, you will recognise this version of the film. Not great (given its production history, I am surprised they managed to get anything made), but not as bad as many make out.

Well for starters I think the story was piss poor - I have yet to have anyone explain to my satisfaction just how another alien/face-hugger got aboard the Sulaco. Secondly, the CGI was, frankly, shocking.
