Hi,
those of you with 10.5.7, open System Preferences. Which version of the icon do you get? I have two machines showing different images.

Image

To the left, my Mac Mini. To the right, my Mac Pro. The Mini is showing a low energy bulb.

Both my Intel Macs have old style bulbs. The Mini, which is a G4 model, has the twisty kind.

It was changed with the unibody MacBooks last autumn, IIRC, but as the above comments show, its appearance is unpredictable. I’m thinking it may be installed with Combo OS X updates, but not if you update sequentially.

I updated my home Mac with the 10.5.7 Combo, so I'll check this out when I get home later today and report back.

I only say that ’cause normally I update sequentially. However I recently did an Archive and Install on the iMac and a clean install on the iBook then ran the Combo to bring them up-to-date. That was when the new icon appeared for the first time on both systems.

I've got the old-style bulb on my white MacBook, updated using Software Update, so this follows Simon's theory, non?

A look on Google suggests this came in with 10.5.6, which was around the time Apple were playing ‘We're so green now’ card.

The venerable Mr. Aughton is right again.
After checking this Mac I have the twisty energy saver type bulb icon.
