What is the legal standpoint of someone having house deeds signed over to them in their married name before they're actually married and so they don't legally have that name at the time.

That's kinda what's on my mind...

Hmm, interesting. Call up the CAB or solicitor, if it looks like it may be an issue you could possibly change name by deed poll before getting married. Although I'm not sure if that would complicate getting a maiden name back in case of a separation down the line.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Early retirement

I get the figures tomorrow and have been advised that there's an additional lump sum if you're at risk. I'm at risk.

Thanks, not my marriage by the way. :D

Just some info that came mine and my brother's way. It's the woman who married my dad. In the June she got her name on the house deeds using our surname but they didn't get married until August. He then died in October. By that point everything else was in her name and now she's selling the house. Oh and she's not once asked if there's anything of my dad's, like one of his paintings he made or one of his books, that we'd like to keep as a memento. Apparently for the past few months one of her ex husbands has been living at the house as well...

If we hadn't have cremated him he'd be turning in his grave.

If he was married at the time of death I would imagine that the fact that her name was on the deeds before would be not significant. Though did he have a will. If not then the rules of intestacy would apply.

Thanks for that.

I know, it's kind of funky though. The thing is we haven't even got a memento becuase of her, we've not seen a will (if there is one) and there's no record at the probate office. We were very close to our dad and he would have at lease put 'my lads can have the pick of my paintings if they want them' or something, that's the kind of person he was. Well, that was until his mind was going hazy. When he was clear of mind marriage wasn't even a consideration and later he was basically wheeled out of hospital and down the isle. This was around the time he was calling her by my mum's name...

Very confused, poor fella. I just know he wouldn't have wanted it to be like this.

Ah well, I'll see what my brother finds out.

There might be grounds for mental incapacity. Look at that as an option. Though she cant sell things until probate, but if there is no will you might have been cleaned out by your step mum.

The mental capacity is a no go, that would just be impossible to prove.

We'll keep having a look into things though, the house ownership/sale is a bit, well not straightforward as it should be.

Quite honestly she can choke on it though.

Best to go and see a solicitor with your brother and see what he says. It will be worth spending the money. If they say you have case then you can fight it.

I wonder how many people walk into Vue cinema (Aberdeen) without paying?
I bought a ticket from a machine this morning and have just walked in without anyone asking to see my ticket.

I didn't send out any invoices or make any purchases for the last quarter as far as the VAT is concerned. It's the first return I've ever had where there's zero in all the boxes.

It's making me wonder whether it's even worth my while trying to stay in business at all.

OMFG I missed the opportunity to win a Nat Geo photography scholarship in Bhutan, you have no idea how much that would be a devote-life-to-that-competition situation. :( Let's hope similar opportunities arise. :D I'd probably do self-debasing things to get to travel in Bhutan, let alone have photos put on the Nat Geo website. :P

I used to work with someone from Aberdeen, he gave the impression the only way to explore it was by looking at it as you drove away.

The thought that I will be offline for as much as three weeks while my new line is activated, then the broadband being installed from another operator. the reason I do it this way is that I get a great call package and great unrestricted broadband for a lot less than I was shelling out to vermin.
