Hey all, just a quickie.

I had someone buy something off me recently and sent them a quick message as they haven't paid yet. They responded saying 'i'm just waiting for my paypal funds to clear as i'm a new seller'.

They have good feedback and have recently started selling but would this affect their ability to pay? Does papyal tie you up while sorting that type of thing out, like when they do the bank account verification and so on?

I dont really understand what they are saying to be honest. I've used Paypal/eBay for some time and when buying from someone have never needed to wait for anything to clear. I press 'pay now', log on to Paypal, press to confirm, Paypal take the money from my bank account/credit card and pass this to the seller.

yes it's possible that their funds are tied up in verification, but last time I did that the funds went through as slow as a cheque payment, rather than being an instant transfer, but it still notified the seller that it was a cheque payment.

Yes if the pay via eCheque it takes bloody ages. Paypal would normally update you with this info though.

New sellers now have to wait for their money until the buyer leave feedback or a certain period passes (sort of like escrow).

Really? Blimey, if I had to do that I'd be waiting for cash constantly the number of people who haven't left feedback.

Really? Is that a new change? There's no way I'd send stuff to a buyer without first receiving payment. Just out of interest, what's the period of time you have to wait for?

The money shows in your payal account but cannot be withdrawn or used until feedback is left (to confirm receipt) or the time period has passed (something like 30-60 days).

You can still pay for things using your card though.

I'd never send anything without payment either. I think, IIRIC, they payment goes through you just don't receive it until you get feedback. Sounds crap to me, I reckon at least 10% of my buyers have never left feedback.

Edit: Hang on a second, my GF recently started selling and she's not had to wait for feedback before getting the money. I'm really confused now.

ALl depends on what you're selling and how long you've been a member.

I've done lots of buying and selling on an account that my wife and I share. I never leave feedback until someone lets me know that they have received the item, either by email or through leaving feedback themselves- or when a reasonable amount of time has gone past without "I've not received my item" emails.

I've never been aware of, nor had a problem with payment connected to feedback and my wife hasn't yet left feedback for two items she bought as Christmas presents- although I've nagged her.

The Paypal echeques are a pain, but I've only ever had one buyer pay that way and we were informed through ebay that the payment was in progress. It's still easier than having to bank a paper cheque.

The one thing that REALLY annoys me about Paypal is that the seller pays the fees. If the buyer is going to pay by cheque, then he/she has to pay for an envelope, address it, put a stamp on it and take the trouble to post it; the seller doesn't pay a penny. So, why does the seller have to pay the Paypal fees? It's much more convenient for the buyer (although admittedly for the seller as well) and they will invariably get the item quicker, so why charge the seller?

Ah, quite true. She has been a member for several years although only recently started selling. I guess that would be why.

It's amazing eBay still has sellers the way it's been going in recent years...

It's been good to me TBH. She paid up BTW.
