Am I the only one here who doesn't bother changing the clocks, under the asumption that they'll be right again in 6 months or so, and adding, (or taking away) one hour in your head isn't exactly rocket science?

Apparently in the dark room in the art school they didn't put it forward in the Spring, but someone has put it back an hour now...

Plan to bring UK clocks forward

Longer evenings could move a step closer with a government plan to move UK clocks forward an extra hour.

A "tourism strategy" will include a plan to move the clocks in line with most of Europe, bringing lighter evenings but darker mornings.

Tourism chiefs and safety campaigners support the move, but there are fears in Scotland about road accidents.

Ministers want to be satisfied the country backs the plan, before giving the go-ahead, the government said.

Last year, Prime Minister David Cameron indicated he was willing to consider a switch.

"The argument will be won when people across the country feel comfortable with the change," he said in August.

"It's up to those who want to make the change to make the argument to try to convince people right across the country that it's a good thing.

"People who like taking part in sporting activity and would like longer days are already quite easy to sway. That's the key to winning this argument."

The proposals will be published by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport in the coming week, the BBC has been told.

Tourism bosses say the number of overseas visitors would increase if summer evenings were lighter and they estimate the benefits to the economy could total billions of pounds.

But there have been fears expressed in Scotland that putting the clocks forward would increase road accidents in the darker mornings.

Only if you drive like a twat, do these people not drive when it's dark FFS.

I'm all for it.

The majority of people are tucked away in bed at night, not out driving. Or are you gonna tell me the roads are choc-a-block at night on a regular basis?

I'm still against this. I'd prefer more light in the mornings. I'd hate for it to be dark at 9am.

It's already fairly depressing getting up at 3am for a 5am shift, but if it was ever darker it'd be far more depressing. And woohoo, lighter evenings, that'll make sure it's harder for me to get to sleep...

This is a bad idea, imho.
Move further north if you want more light in the evenings. ;)

Do you not find it harder to wake up and function when it is darker? And do you find it easy to get to sleep when it is bright and bustling outside?
If so then I envy you so much.

If we moved forward six hours then we really would benefit of lighter evenings, but I don't see people leaping at that idea.

It would be easier if the UK and the whole of Europe just switched to GMT all year around. There would be no problem with dark mornings for anyone, and it would save industry a small fortune by not having to switch over twice a year.

In fact, why shouldn't the entire planet run on GMT? Sure it would be dark at 12:00 in Australia, but time is just a number. There's nothing to stop you going to work at 21:00 and finishing at 05:00 if that happens to be when the sun is up locally.

Have you seen many "regular" jobs with an earlier start than 9am, which would allow me to enjoy lighter evenings?
