Guitar based question.
My semi-acoustic bass needs new strings. It's been sodding ages since I last bought a set for it and consequently can't even remember what gauge the current ones are. *sigh* So, do you muso types buy strings online? If so, where, please? I'm also looking to buy a hard carry case for it, so if I could get one of those from the same place then that'd be a bonus, but it's by no means essential.

I thought you were selling it if you do sell as is, then the description would be "no strings attached" ?

I assume the strings are still attached otherwise the neck is going to be horribly warped.

Bass not being sold, as I've decided against that. The guitar is still going though. The old strings are indeed still attached.

Why not just tale it to a guitar shop and talk to them about it? Buy a set, keep the packets and you'll know what to get next time.

Because the only guitar shop that I know of in Belfast closed down. (8+( Mark EDIT - Just Googled and there's more than one branch. I wonder if just the one I know of closed down or if all of them did. I might go for a wander tomorrow and see if I can find them.

Do you have or know someone that has a micrometer? Guitar shop should have one anyhow to measure gauge and tell you what you have already fitted. I tend to buy my strings from ebay (cheaper than shop) or go to local music shop if I cant wait for delivery. As for the hard case I can highly recommend Hiscox Cases but not sure if they make one for Acoustic Bass guitars, the ones for my guitars are seriously tough. Can jump on them and pile other gear on them no problem.

+1 for the Hiscox cases. I got one for my electric guitar. Local guitar shop knew what I had an ordered one to fit. My other guitar came with one. You really can jump about on them and they won't break.

Yet another reason to head to Lahndon at some point in the near future (8-p) So glad I don't have the money at present, or else that'd be another way I could through away my degree...

Thanks for the case recommendations chaps. This is what the Gibson case is like for the Les Paul copy that I have. It's an original Gibson Les Paul case and it's solid as a rock. Mark

I got my last strings from a mate (Kindawobbly). He got them off the cover of a guitar magazine Bonus; he put them on for me too because I'm totally useless Sorry, not a very helpful post

What type of strings do you use normally? soft or hard? I used soft my brother uses hard on the electric. I can ask him if you want

Hard or soft? Never heard of that in 20 years of playing. Heavy or Light maybe?
