lack of evidence
Is that no evidence for alcohol wipes working to kill bacteria, or alcohol wipes working to stop the injection site from becoming infected? Personally I can't see how sicking a sterile needle into your arm is going to cause infection.

Alcohol wipes work but the skin needs to be cleaned thoroughly and then allow the alcohol to dry. Done properly, it'd take longer than taking the blood.

The skin is a barrier - breaking that barrier introduces a risk of infection. The needle may be sterile, but the punctum you've just left isn't and can be colonised quite quickly. However, I think the risk of this happening is very low.

I remember discussing this in A Level English, way back in the mists of time (or about 25 years ago), and the teacher had researched this. He claimed it originated from the Viking use of the word "kna" for "know".

Aye but Old Norse and Old English both have Germanic routes so it still stands. ;)

Watching that pile o'crap "Junior doctors" on BBC3.

One of the juniors had to do a rectal examination on the episode shown this evening. My other half pointed out that the soundtrack to this event was 'Supermassive Black Hole" by Muse. :)

Whether they're going to do the cementing/clean up on day shift or whether I'm going to get lumbered with it tomorrow night.

Whether bonjela teething gel has hardcore drugs in it or not. She's never slept this long in the evening before.
