Just thinking about bunjee jumping.

I've only done it once and went for a biggie (it used to be the biggest in the world).

Anyway, I was thinking that it was probably the most scared I have ever been in my life and then I was wondering why I was scared?

Is it the fear of the height? Hmm... not sure.
I think it is probably more to do with the fear of trusting someone you have never met and don't know with your life.

I had grown accustomed to the height as I was up there for about 45 mins waiting for everyone before me to jump. Logically I had seen that everyone before me had jumped, they were different weights, sizes and heights so I knew that I would be OK when I jumped.

The only thing I had left to fear was the fact that the guys had attached me to the bunjee properly. It was the only thing that could harm me and I couldn't control it or even check it without going through with the jump.

I always wanted to do a bungee jump but as I have gotten older I have developed vertigo so there is no way I'm going to do it now.

It's not about rationalising the risk though. It's a deeply embedded part of the brain to recognise that you're up high, and you're going to be jumping off. I'm not sure the knowledge that you're almost certainly safe to do so helps if it's your first time. It's a new experience and it's something entirely counterintuitive to your previous experience, so you're going to be scared because the consequences are outside your field of experience.

I don't fancy doing one, I'd rather do a parachute jump.

I don't see the appeal of a bungee TBH, over too quickly and chance of permanent injury that can be influenced by others. I'm too much of a control freak at heart and like to get my money's worth. :D

I've done a tandem skydive also and I have to say that although the skydive was a rush the bunjee definitely felt more ...erm... everything.

It was scarier as I had to jump myself rather than being attached to someone. It felt faster as you are closer to the ground. Etc...

I wouldn't be scared of going splat. I'd be scared of getting detached retina.

That question was raised when I was there IIRC.

If that happens then the bungee cord isn't set up right for you weight.

The company in NZ have a 100% no injury record since they started in the 80s so I was pretty sure I'd be OK. And there was no snap back or pulling it was actually quite gentle :D
