Yippee, I've just managed to persuade the powers that be round here to let me order a RAM upgrade for our server. They finally saw the light when I explained that it's not a good idea for a server to be constantly using more memory than it actually has. So, a 4GB kit is on order for next week. Of course, that means we've now got too much if you include the 2GB we already have, so the spare sticks will be kept as spares in our storage area.* It's a small thing, but it's made me happy. Hopefully it'll actually help our network issues! *storage area=my home PC

Got to be worth a try! It's free, so if it causes problems then I'll just stick the old stuff back in.

According to Photobucket, my avatar is getting 1500 hits a day on this site.
The one for the other place is only getting half that, despite there being 60x as many posts.

This is a horrible Acer jobbie with 2 (software mirrored) 80GB Sata Disks. It's never been in a proper server room and has cup rings on top of it (and smells of dog piss). THe new HP wouldn't even boot with the drives attached to it, they're that [LIFTED].

I've seen some pretty maltreated servers in my time, but I've never seen one used as a toilet before! Hope you get it sorted - I've got an XP install going at home and the drive was making some suspicious whirring noises when I left it. God knows what I'll be coming home to! (although I just need the drive to last long enough to install XP, then Win 7 on a different drive - long story....)
