I upgraded to 4.3 and suddenly my iPhone is using the battery at an indredible rate!

I'm on holiday this week and I charged my iPhone on Monday morning. On Wednesday afternoon, it still had 55% charge. I then installled iOS 4.3 and after a full charge, I played a bit of Angry Birds and listened to an Audible book. I left it next to my bed, so I put it in airplane mode, with 88% battery left. When I woke up, it was down to 25%! I then put it to the side and did some chores, before going down to the cellar at lunch time and putting it on charge, it was down to 5%!

That means, that it has gone from using around 15% battery per day, to using 80% battery in 18 hours (after taking into account the bit of playing with Angry Birds and listening to the audio book).

Has anybody else noticed any problems?

As I don't own one, I can't comment specifically.

It does sound odd.

I would be tempted to treat it like a lappy battery, and let it cycle down to empty, then give it a full recharge while it's powered off, to see if it resets the battery "clock".

You can't do that. I did let it run down, but as soon as it is connected to the power, it turns itself on automatically, there is no "off" switch in that sense...

Ah, I didn't know that.

A slight change of plan, then, to leave it plugged in charging, but turn off wifi and whatnot?

What model do you have? My iPhone 4 doesn't seem to be chewing up battery any more than usual...Then again I always put my phone on charge overnight as I usually use between 50% and 75% through playing games and surfing the web...

Problem solved... Simon Aughton put me on to it.

After the update, iOS 4.3 decided I needed to have Skype running in the background (I haven't used it in over a month). Why it decided to run that is a mystery, but I killed it off and it has dropped 20% in the last 2 days.
