A survey by discount site Myvouchercodes has found that UK Wiis are gathering dust as users neglect Nintendo's console.

Of about 1,070 Wii owners polled, 48 percent said they hadn't used their console in six months or more, according to Gamerzines.

Of those, 41 percent said they didn't have the time, 29 percent said the novelty had worn off, and 22 percent had moved on to Kinect or PlayStation Move.

23 percent said they hadn't used the console within the last month and 12 percent said they had not used the system within the last week.

MyVoucherCodes.co.uk chairman Mark Pearson said: "The Wii really was a novelty when it first came out, but following the release of new motion controlled gaming platforms it appears that people have lost enthusiasm for the console.

"Wii's are a great choice, particularly for families who want to keep all ages entertained; but, inevitably, new platforms start to take over, as motion-controlled technology develops and improves across the board."

He added: "It's quite surprising to see that over half of people who own a Wii haven't used it in the past six months or more; but realistically, it's simply another example of the latest technology starting to become outdated."

Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime said in an interview this week that the company had delayed the launch of some Wii titles to focus on "juggling two big balls" in 3DS and Pokémon Black & White, and the gamble appears to have paid off.

New tech my arse - a lack of games worth buying and sh1t controls are the real problems there... My mate sold all his Wii games and got a homebrew 'old skool games' emulator for it

It is the same reason that DVD's are still in shrink-wrap. We have too many other options. The Wii might be a great party console but not so great otherwise so hence is left alone.
