As you may well imagine E. F. Benson isn't my real name. Heres the thing, a list I subscribe to has a new member who chooses to call himself Ben Dover. It's a real world thing and everyone else uses their real name, there are even meetups occasionally. I just can't take this one seriously, every query he posts I view with suspicion, when is his mate Phil going to join and were his parents sadists? Did he go to school in the UK? Should I be rude and ask? </conflicted>

That is possibly what he wants as an ego boost. Just ignore the name and seek meaning from the posts. If the posts have no meaning then ignore everything.

This sounds sensible to me. Although I can totally understand, as it would frustrate/intrigue me as well.

I'm okenobi everywhere and recently signed up for a Lanzarate forum with that name where everybody else is "Jill", "John", "Bob" etc. so I guess I'm the awkward one.

I should probably clarify at this point that JonBWFC isn't actually my real name either. That would have been a seriously weird thing for my parents to have done.

Well okenobi isn't my real name. I tend to go by old Ben these days. The clone wars were a long time ago...

I think my name is short-ar$e as that's what they call me at work. I'm just pleased it's hyphenated :D

Easy to say it to the 'Great Escape' music.

Well my user name is clearly not my real name either. The amnesia is because I have that condition and the 10 is because when I joined the Dennis forums that was the name assigned to me, so I have just carried it on here. I do try and use as many different user names as possible, so that I cannot be traced as that plonker from x404.

I use Snaptophobic as a nom de plume. It's my Flickr nickname, and my blog and Twitter names. I use it when I don't necessarily feel I need to be identified in a gender specific manner.

The name I use here is close to my real name. In my everyday life I go by the name of Heather von Kelvingrove Ponsonby-Smythe Featherstonehaugh the Third.

:P

Strangely to my friends Veato is my real name!

To most others I'm Phil.

To my mother (particularily if I've done something wrong) I'm "PHILIP!"
