Hi all,

If I am downloading a torrent (say the new LibreOffice), but already have the disk image that I am downloading, how can I tell my torrent client (Transmission) that I have downloaded the file by other means and here it is, please start seeding it?

In the past I've just pointed the download to the folder containing the file. If it has got the same name and is exactly the same size it started checking it first and then seeding.

I have even found that copying the odd file into the torrent and rechecking does the same.

I find it easier if you have separate folders for incomplete downloads and finished downloads. Some programs move completed downloads to the finished folder and so when finished you have them all in a folder ready to move elsewhere, leaving incomplete downloads alone.

It makes it much easier if you have to add files or restart a torrent.
