Evening.

Quick post before I get changed and head on down to meet up with a few old friends for an evening of beer & curry.

Just arrived back in Blighty from a three week trip to Kenya.

Went on a couple of safaris, did a couple of dives and a bit of snorkelling, walked around a slum on the outskirts of Nairobi at dusk , went on a whale shark spotting trip (with no whale sharks ), spent time on the beach, walked around Mombasa a couple of times, went to a few museums, tried to avoid corruption daily, constantly cleaned away dust, risked life and limb on public transport numerous times, saw a lot of wildlife and interacted with many of the locals and finished off climbing a volcano in the Great Rift Valley. In fact less than 24 hours ago I was 2.8km above sea level and now I'm back in London.

Kenya is incredibly dusty, incredibly corrupt, but a real pleasure to visit.

Yesterday was my slightly belated birthday extravaganza. Cooked Heston's recipe for Chilli which whilst thoroughly excessive did taste staggeringly good. Couple of significant typos in the book did make life a little interesting though, and there are definitely some ways to save on time, money and hassle in the preparation that shouldn't compromise the dish too much. Certainly lots of worthwhile bits picked up though. After eating we played a very large game of Arkham Horror which was much fun, and Cthulu was well and truly vanquished.

Time to get dressed then off to the post office and then on to Guildford & Farnham to see people I know.

Our local star is shining brightly this morning. Fair warms the cockles, and cats.

I think I shall be doing the weekly shop today, leaving Best Beloved indoors Just-In-Case™ anything might arrive by courier that needs signing for.
