Actually I don't hold with that point of view. I believe Flash would be very welcome on the device if they could make it actually work well. Adobe have failed miserably to make Flash run well on Apple hardware. It may or may not be their fault but the fact remains that it is buggy and a power hog.* One day they may get it right (with sufficient incentive) then we all will benefit. CC* There may also be reasons why Apple don't want to tie into a proprietary technology (preferring open source). Apple have long liked open technologies. DRM was inflicted on them in iTunes by the record labels and was resisted for years before Jobs won that battle.

Flash is unnecessary. With HTML 5 why is it needed? It will just be a drain on the tablet what ever the system.

At the moment it would be nice to have it included. IF the bloody thing worked well. I have it on my Mac. Blocked most of the time because it slows everything down so much but there are times when I do want to watch Flash content. I hope the more open HTML5 comes everywhere soon. If Flash is not available on portable devices (or it sucks batteries dry on devices like x-oom) then there will be strong incentive to develop competitors.

I use click to flash as well. I block 99% of flash on any page unless it is essential. That said I would rather be shot of it completely. Most of my crashes and problems are because of it.

I think for me it's not so much the fact that Flash is proprietary that grates with me, it's the fact that it's so inaccessible. This is less of an issue with components embedded in websites, but when whole sites are written in Flash (which is thankfully on the decline) text-based browsers (And Google) don't stand a chance. If Google doesn't know about it, then no matter how good the content I'm unlikely to be able to find it. (And it's a power-hungry monster, but some things always will be)

Oh, I agree. I don't care. I just want stuff to "just work". I don't mind paying a premium for stuff that "just works". By that I mean it works with minimum effort or inconvenience. So, easy to install (or better yet pre-installed), secure and easy to use are what I am looking for.

I do not think that being proprietary is that much of an issue, don't forget Windows and OSX are also proprietary. Though they have not used that control well.

What disturbs me about Flash is that it is probably the biggest and most widely distributed malware platform on the 'Net.
Flash has probably had more critical security flaws than OS X and Windows 7 combined last year! It is one of the reasons I'm happy with iOS and Windows Phone 7 not supporting Flash and why I have it disabled on my desktop machines.

Even slightly cheaper than I expected. I think I will get the 64Gb wifi version at those prices.

Fixed: The Tab 10.1 has been redesigned since we saw it at MWC and both tablets can now boast that they are the world's thinnest tablets at 8.6 mm. Ipad2 is not only thicker by 0.2mm but also heavier by 6g with the Galaxy weighing in at 595g. The Tab 10.1 will cost the same as Ipad2 (in USA) http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/new ... z1HMHKrCfP

Neither of which are at all perceptible without a well-calibrated set of scales and a micrometer. They still don't get it. They're still fixating around numbers when the last five years of techery has shown the mass of the tech buying population couldn't give a flying rat's ass about numbers. The iPod, iPhone and iPad have pretty much always been 'outnumbered' by their contemporaries but have outsold each one of them. People don't read specs, only geeks do. And geeks are a small portion of the market. Sadly, I think Samsung may have already blown their chance. Whatever they do with it now, to the majority it will still be 'the galaxy tab' that they didn't buy last time because it didn't live up to the hype. Therefore, they won't buy it this time either. You only get once chance to make an impression and, frankly, Samsung blew it. As did Motorola. Someone will make a wildly successful Android tablet but somehow, I doubt it will be either of these two. Jon

One can still rely on jonbwfc to slagg off anything and everything and throw a 5000 words essay to boot... Jon, is there anything in this world that is good enough for you?

Apple do though. When the iPhone4 came out they said this: When creating iPhone 4, Apple designers and engineers didn’t start with a clean sheet of paper. They started with three years of experience designing and building the phones that redefined what a phone can do. iPhone 4 is the result of everything they’ve learned so far. And it’s all contained in a beautiful enclosure a mere 9.3 millimeters thin, making iPhone 4 the world’s thinnest smartphone.

People didn't buy the iPhone 4 because it was thin. Jon
