Gamestation has moved to defend its marketing strategy after an anonymous member of staff accused her employer of running a "pretty openly sexist" campaign. The employee in question told GamesIndustry.biz she was unhappy about a campaign offering pre-owned games at prices "cheaper than your girlfriend". She said: "It is pretty openly sexist - girls being cheap, obviously, but it's also pandering to the old stereotype that gamers are guys. And of course any discrimination is banned by GAME's own employee regulations, so I don't see why the company itself should be able to get away with it." GAME's PR department responded to the accusation of sexism with the following statement. "We welcome everyone into our stores and the Gamestation brand reflects its customer base which is still predominantly the traditional core male gamer. Our marketing and in-store POS does, and will continue to, appeal to that audience. "Throughout its existence, Gamestation has always been slightly edgy and occasionally controversial. Our customers love this about us. Whether they agree with everything we do is a different matter." It added: "We embrace people's right to disagree and you will see this in our stores every week as our customers and staff discuss, usually passionately, the finer points of the latest games." 482 GAME and Gamestation stores are to open their doors at midnight tonight for the 3DS launch. Surely the point of the 'joke' is that girlfriends are in fact quite expensive and games, as they say, are cheaper? Would it have been OK if half of the ads had said 'cheaper than your boyfriend'? Yeah, you should have seen the grief I got after I played Bad Company 2 for half an hour.. You don't think the whole 'indignation' thing has been cooked up to get some extra free publicity at all, do you?

Well if your girlfriend allows you to get away with spending less than that you have a keeper.

In which case the poster is clearly wrong, as the game is clearly more expensive than a bag of chips.

Mexico advises workers on sexist languageMexico's interior ministry has published a guide on how to reduce the use of sexist language in a nation renowned for its machismo. The Manual for the Non-sexist Use of Language is being distributed to government offices across Mexico. It seeks to reduce comments that enforce gender stereotypes, as well as the default use of the masculine form in the Spanish language. The manual was written by a body that tackles violence against women. In its introduction, the manual describes itself as "a tool to familiarize federal public workers with the use of non-sexist strategies in the Spanish language". It discourages the use of phrases such as: "If you want to work, why did you have children," and: "You are prettier when you keep quiet". It also advises against referring to women as possessions, as in phrases such as "Pedro's woman". Femicide The manual says workers should avoiding using the masculine form in the Spanish language when it is not appropriate. "It is very common for us to use the masculine without knowing the gender of the people we are referring to or - even more incoherently - to use masculine adjectives or professional titles even when we know we are talking about a woman," it explains. The document was drawn up by the National Commission to Prevent and Eradicate Violence Against Women, Conavim. On International Women's Day on 8 March the Mexican government acknowledged that "insults and harassment" of women remained a problem. On the same day, women's groups protested against an increase in murders of women because of their gender, a phenomenon known in Mexico as femicide. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-12843948All this time I thought Hollywood was stereotyping

Having not grown up here what's the equivalent 'grab your coat you've pulled' phrase? I mean nobody wears coats up here.
