Hello all,

I think I may have paid too much tax...
According to http://www.uktaxcalculators.co.uk, I should have paid £1828 of tax and £1126 of national insurance, however my figures are closer to £2000 and £1400 respectively.
I believe this is because I've only had a job for part of the last financial year (August - now).

If I leave this does it all settle out? Do I have to claim it back? What must I do to ensure I either get taxed less this coming year or get the money back?

Thanks very much,
Ben

You could very well be on an emergency tax code.
Contact your tax office and ask them what's going on. If it is an emergency code they should be able to sort it all out for you.

Ah, I've just realised I forgot to input my tac code. Still, I've contributed more than I needed to NI...

If memory serves, that's tough. You aren't able to get back overpaid NI.

I get about 1100€ back this year - we bought a house and we get the VAT on any labour carried out on repairs and rennovation...

I also get money back for driving to work each day and 100€ or so for materials for work.

+1

I got back a fairly hefty chunk last year after working 5 month paying tax... was going to put it towards a holiday but had to put it towards my new car after my old one was written off :(
