I know we have some Nokia fans on this forum. I just wondered how you are finding the new OVI store? Is it any good?

Not used it yet but I just took delivery of my 5800 Xpress Music so I might have to have a look.

I think it is meant to work on phones as dated as 6 years old.
It could be really impressive if it does. With and installed market like that it could be a major player.

I did hear that the app count is a bit thin on numbers compared to iTunes app store

Early days yet. A lot depends on how easy Nokia make it to programme for their phones. Apple are adding applications at about 7000 a month. If Nokia can match this then they could take the lead away from Apple. Compared to Apple who have just 1.5% of the phone market Nokia are Goliaths.

TBH just a few quality good value apps would do for me. There's too many for the Touch/iPhone.

Maybe, I know that I have a few albums that I listen to again and again but it is nice to have a choice of many thousands in the music store of my choice. If a company gets it right the browsing experience should be part of the fun. So out of the multitude of Nokia owning technophiles on this forum has nobody at all used the OVI store yet? I would have though most of you would have. This does not look good for Nokia.

CC, I think you are forgetting that a nokia owner can go anywhere to get added programs to there smartphones, unlike the iPhone where there is just one legal place to get phones. Plus as it has all ready been mentioned quality is better than quantity. The App store for the iPhone is full of dross. There are gems but they can take bleeding ages.

No, I was not forgetting. I just never knew that you could download stuff to your phone from just anywhere. That is pretty cool. How come I have never met anyone that has done this I wonder? Is there a list of phones it will work on? Can I get stuff on CK's 6600 for example?

Up until I got my iPhone, I would regualry buy games, apps etc from all over the place for my phones (N70,M600i etc). With the iPhone its the first time I have had only one place to use (without jailbreaking of course). Apple have just made it so easy and with many apps either being free (aka the lite versions) or 59p it encourages people to spend money. Previously many programs could be extortionate and we can see that starting to creep into the Apps store as some of the big players enter the market fully. They do not want micro payment for programmes, they want £5, £10, £15 plus.
