Quote:
An elderly Georgian woman was scavenging for copper to sell as scrap when she accidentally sliced through an underground cable and cut off internet services to all of neighbouring Armenia, it emerged on Wednesday.

The woman, 75, had been digging for the metal not far from the capital Tbilisi when her spade damaged the fibre-optic cable on 28 March.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Well, yes. Copper prices are at a high right now. There's often stories here in the UK of thieves stripping phone lines, even high tension cables at great risk, in order to steal the copper wire.

Oh I know the prices are high. Even four years ago I saw a bloke in Sydney cutting cables of monitors, keyboards, TVs and the like on council collection day. Bastard, I was out looking for monitors and keyboards to reuse, not destroy. :x

Anyway with the women I was implying that she was actively stealing copper cable, as it was still in use. Probably got a hell of a surprise when she found out the core wasn't copper. :)

She's Georgian?!?!?

That makes her at least 180 years old! She really shouldn't be digging at her age!
