Commute should only take you about 10 hours or so and as for the qualifications - they are after peeps that have had a lobotomy, or that's the impression I get. The council is being shaped through this Designing Better Services thing - they have bought an adjacent old supermarket and are going to stuff it full of desks battery hen style. At the front will be a call centre with young, underpaid and not very motivated people who must follow the script or incur the wrath of the untouchables - incompetent staff who have had to be promoted to a managerial post. What happens when an officer finally receives the call depends on the tolerance of the customer. We don't have many tolerant customers I am sooooooo glad I'm getting out but sympathise with those of you without jobs at the moment. Al

Really? Ours were only about seven pounds each.

I have sort of. It's a Canon EOS 400D. The discs I've mislaid are the online user guides and the EOS utility, picture management and other software installation. They're in the house somewhere. I've just not managed to lay my mitts on them yet.

While you're waiting for more replies are you aware that you can download the utilities, manuals etc from the Canon Website? LINK*Obviously it wouldn't have the autorun functionality of a CD=ROM but if finding the software became a pressing issue... Hope this helps. * I didn't select an Operating system as I didn't know if it was a Windows or Mac user that was installing the software.

John, I know about the downloads. Sadly, Canon require a copy of the software installed before you can run the updaters they let you download. When I first realised I'd mislaid the discs, my first thought was "no prob, download and burn a CD" - which would be no use. Happily, I've now had a couple of peeps PM me with offers of bits and bobs, so everything may turn out okay after all.

Yeah, I realised after I'd posted that all of the EOS utilities said "updater" but as long as someone else can help you out it's all cool.

It's better than that. I had a brainwave that the discs might have been slipped into a storage box up in the loft during one of our intermittent tidying sessions. I was right. I've found the discs, all is well. Thanks to everyone that's offered copies and spares and so on. Much appreciated. One of the things I love about x404 is the way we try and rally around to help when we can.

I have just bought a new Canon and decided to try and see if I can get away without installing the canon software. I managed to import them through a program called image capture. Which was on the machine. I suspect it is part of OSX.

I import my images through Aperture on my Mac, but until recently the Canon OEM software was the only way to shoot with the camera tethered to the computer. As the friend buying the gear is a PC user, I really needed all the discs so he has the option of installing the software if he wants. All's well that ends well, as they say.
