I preordered a game with the game store in Harrogate with the intention of trading in some old games.

It's finally come out and the game is 39.99 in store and 32.99 online.

I asked if my preorder still works for the online store. No it doesnt.

I asked if I can trade in for a gift certificate and use it online. No I can't they don't accept gory cards online.

Right then. I'll go buy it from elsewhere. Bye.

A similar thing happened to me.

I bought a game from Game, and selected to collect it from the store (thinking I could have it same-day). I thought this meant I could walk in and it would be reserved for me (like Argos etc). No, in fact I had to wait for Game to send a copy out to the store (via Royal Mail!), then I could collect that copy. What a waste of time. :?

As I've mentioned before, Game need to be seriously cheap for me to even consider them - it's run like Currys now, with generally laughable prices and staff trying to sell you insurance

Aye. TBH the only reason I go into places like game is to look at the bargain bin stuff, or to get a look/feel of a game or peripheral device.

The last time I bought anything from a gamestore is about four years ago:

1. when I bought my PS3+GT5P - it was an impulse buy (well, actually I looked up the nearest game store, drove there to find there was no parking and then double backed to another shopping area, parked and then bought it).

2. On a random day off work, I went into the same shopping centre, and as usual walked into Zavvi to see what was on offer. 3 games for £30 (Simpsons, Conan and something else that I can't remember). Played them for a week and not touched them since.

I was given the signature edition of GT5 which was bought in-store for me as a pressie, otherwise I buy everything online. Much cheaper and don't have to worry about parking.

My local game has turned into a massive console and hand-held store. There isn't much in the way of PC games any more and they are either overpriced (compared to Play, for example) or 2 for £xx jobs. I rarely bother buying either from there any more.

I did get Crysis 2 from their on-line store. Pre-ordered it was only £24.99. It is now £29.99 and £26.99 on Play.

I have never and will never pre-order a game. It's just pointless IMO, I've never paid full-price either, there's always a small warehouse store on Google selling it cheaply.

I now always wait for a game to have been out for a while, with the one exception of Starcraft 2 which I did pre order. I held off buying Civ 5 as I knew a friend would be getting it. He did not like it. So have not bought that. So now I wait till the game is out and then buy it off eBay for a fraction of the new price and only after I have bought the manual.

You won't master how to play it until you lose a lot online, practice against me if you want, we could set some custom games up before you hit the ladder. leatrn a build order and repeat until you start winning, it's the only way to get in to the game.

[LIFTED] I am an amnesiac. It takes me ages to learn to win. I am still on the easiest level.

Ah, well I can imagine how a strategy game would be bloody hard to master then ;) Good luck with it, also it is probably one of the best strategy games ever made, so I urge you to stick with it as long as you're having fun.

I do persevere. I must admit to playing Star Wars Empire at War at the moment, just playing at the skimishes.
