where's The Thing?
I think a lot of people forget that the John Carpenter The Thing is a remake, which I think is a testament to just how good a film it is.

Tree of Life

Terrence Malick's new movie has an impressive website here.

Quote:
Terrence Malick's THE TREE OF LIFE, starring Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain, seems enigmatic and mysterious. Ostensibly it's about a man (Sean Penn) dealing with his childhood and his overbearing father (Brad Pitt), but there's so much amazing imagery in the trailer and early reviews are comparing it to 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY.

From Ain't it cool news here.

Melancholia

New film from Lars von Trier. Odd trailer here. Starts off as a grim-looking movie about relationships and goes off at a tangent. Some real weirdos and conspiracy types submitting comments too!

Another remake....They Live

Quote:
Having just tackled a remake with last year's "Let Me In", filmmaker Matt Reeves ("Cloverfield") is about to do a new version of another genre classic - John Carpenter's 1988 sci-fi cult classic "They Live" says Heat Vision.

More here.

Straight from Sylvester Stallone... WALTER HILL is directing HEADSHOT!

Published on: Apr 11, 2011 8:52:49 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Last Friday, I got a surprise call from Sylvester Stallone to chat with me about Walter Hill. I immediately did my geek duty to Walter Hill and sung his praises throughout the phone call, because... just in case you forgot... WALTER HILL is the MAN! Not the oppressive MAN, but the MAN who gets cool [LIFTED] done! Well - I just got the following email from Stallone:

It's official. We've got Walter Hill on board so would love for you to let the world know.

We've been on the same track since The Driver, then 48 Hrs didn't happen so here we are almost 35 years later, I'm finally driving with Walter Hill.

First off - the cool thing about this note is the notion that Sly was up for both THE DRIVER and 48 HRS. I happen to love both films - but I do have to say I'm wildly curious to dream of both with a Hill directed Sly in those years! Kind of boggles the mind.

But this is a Cop & Hitman team-up pic. Called HEADSHOT. How good can that genre get? Well, look no further than John Woo's amazing THE KILLER to just drool. Here we're going to have Walter Hill doing classic action, crime, pulp material - with Stallone & most likely a younger co-star - but man with the pedigree at this point, if I were a badass actor, I'd be dying for that part. Eh? Who do you wanna see Sly kick ass with?

Mark Wahlberg adds two more projects to his slate

Taking on When Corruption Was King and Billy Jack

Mark Wahlberg has added two more projects to his already ample line-up.

Following the success of The Fighter, Wahlberg has been attached to a string of new projects as an actor and producer. Various reports (compiled by Collider) are now linking him to When Corruption Was King and a remake of Billy Jack.

Wahlberg will produce both films (with partner Stephen Levinson), and he could potentially star in them as well.

When Corruption Was King is based on mob attorney Robert Cooley's memoirs. The subtitle (How I Helped the Mob Rule Chicago, then Brought the Outfit Down) is a useful summary of the movie-friendly events therein.

Billy Jack was a gunslinging modern cowboy played by Tom Laughlin over a number of movies. In his eponymous 1971 movie, he helped a school full of hippie students defend themselves from the anti-counterculture townsfolk.

While there's a suggestion that Billy Jack could be updated to become a zeitgeisty actioner, a tongue-in-cheek Starsky and Hutch-type remake would play perfectly to Wahlberg's penchant for action and comedy (think The Other Guys).

Whether he'll actually get round to starring in either of these movies is another matter entirely. The biggest film on his schedule is David O. Russell's videogame adaptation Uncharted, and he's also got Seth McFarlane's Ted lined up.

After that he's possibly got action-comedy Bait and Switch to star in, and those rumours of a Fighter sequel just won't go away.

I like the sound of When Corruption Was King :)

The original Cape Fear had Gregory Peck as the lawyer, and it was excellent. The remake was pretty true to the original, but not de Niro's Max Cady was updated for the time with more tattoos and religion to make him more menacing.
