Got the Acorn Archimedes running today!

I took it to a friend who is good at this kind if thing - he certainly has more control over a soling iron than I do. After a lot of digging about, trial and error and a spot of Google work, the problem was traced down to a capacitor which regulates a circuit used to power the fan. The cap. had died, causing a short and the PSU was shutting down as a precaution. Removing the capacitor seemed to do the job, and the machine is up and running again.

Well done to you and your mate on the diagnostics.

Just want to say though; the cap was there for a reason and it's only about 10p to replace it

It probably be replaced in the long term, but my mate who knows a lot about such things is certain it's not going to do any harm not having it there. He would not have let me take it away if it would have been a problem.

So, the job now is to start to go through the HD and see what's on there. It will be a combination of my university work (mostly font work and essays), the small magazine I ran (PDFs may appear if I can do conversions) and games.

Work will start on turning a cupboard int a small museum consisting of my old computers
