HUD might be common in the kind of cars we mere mortals can buy within then years. I think that all you'll get.

I can see them having to be cleaned on a very regular basis with dirty fuels, however use with hydrogen would probably be much more suitable.

If you were using hydrogen wouldn't you use a fuel cell rather than internal combustion?

Presuming you can't fit a fusion reactor in your car, yes  . That is a good point though, if you use a laser ignition system, how do you deal with 'sooting' of whatever light carrier it enters the combustion chamber through? Does it have to be powerful enough so it just burns off whatever is in the way?

It has to be just as powerful as a spark. Plugs don't work either if they're sooted up, but that only happens if the mixture is too rich.
