Probably because they aren't graphic novels with super heroes. :)

Asimov's Foundation trilogy would be difficult to make into a film, I think.

The story arc covers seven books, and at least three different periods in history over several tens of thousands of years. To make it fit a movie format would inevitably involve a major compromise or several.

That said, Foundation was dramatised by BBC Radio back in the late 1970s. Let us not forget that Lord of the Rings was always deemed to be unfilmable, and that more or less worked out okay (though the story arc in LotR is much shorter by comparison).

Personally, I'd love to see Foundation as a film, but as it hasn't happened yet I doubt it will happen at all.

(I've only read three of the books, and that was complex enough!)

I'm a little puzzled. I thought there were only 3 books in the trilogy? I have the collection on my shelf, although I first read them borrowed from the library in the wrong order as a child. They actually work really well if you start with Second Foundation, because the history gives a tremendous depth to the story. Done well, it could make a great film in it's own right.

Oh I see. So which bits did you read? I've not read the post '81 stuff because I didn't know about it

There is also the thorny issue of Bratty’s life story - that probably counts as science fiction.

On Basilisk Station for me. It's the only one on that list I've read.

I hope you aren't questioning my geek credentials old man :P ;)

No, I don't read enough sci-fi cos much of it can be very dry or tailored to very specific taste, and I've got a million other books (including GNs ;) ), to keep me busy :)

Which reminds me of that book thread I started...
