Well he has never ceased fire yet why should we believe him with respect to this ceasefire?

Indeed. When Gaddafi says he wants a cease fire the key questions to ask is whether he means a Ceasefire as everyone else understands it (i,e, all sides stop shooting) or his own warped idea of a cease fire (where everyone else but his own forces stop shooting).

He obviously wants NATO to back off as they are preventing him from crushing the opposition. That isn't going to happen until he calls his own forces back.

I think he uses the Libyan definition of a ceasefire.
