Tomorrow, from north and mid Wales, the borders and the north West, several convoys of vehicles are converging on the Stanlow oil refinery in Ellesmere Port to blockade it.

My petrol warning light came on the other day and I was going to fill up sometime soon, but panic buying has set in and I know that one filling station had sold out (it was shut anyway) and the two supermarket stations were choc-a-bloc with people fuelling up, so I imagine that they have run out too.

So, even if I wanted to, I can't join the fuel protest as I haven't even got enough to get me to the start point, never mind the end!!

Are filling stations affected near anyone else?

Isn't that called irony? Not enough fuel to get to a fuel protest?

I wasn't really going to go, but I wonder if anyone who was intending to go has forgotten to fuel up.

If I'd known about it, I would definitely have filled up on the way home from work yesterday morning! (to get around and to work, not to the fuel protest )

Prices have gone up sharply, but they all seem to have stock here and I've not noticed any longer than normal queuing.

Or to get any petrol for your petrol bombs.

Petrol at my Shell garage went up 3x in 1 week each time by 1p a litre (effectively 14p/gallon rise in a week).

I noticed they had sneaked it up another 1p on Friday

Here the price fluctuates by about 8c a week.

I tanked diesel for 1.40 last weekend, Wednesday it was 1.48, it is back down to 1.44 again now. Petrol is about 10c more expensive per litre.

Didn't Labour make such blockades illegal after the September 2000 fuel protests?

For some reason Derby has very cheap petrol. I've never been anywhere in the same day (other towns/cities etc) that's had cheaper. Plenty of them are more expensive.
I've always wondered why given that it's miles away from any refinery.

Would I join a protest? No. The situation is what it is and no amount of fuel spent on driving to a protest will change that.

I know. Until this year I'd never put over £50 in my tank. Now I've done it a few times.

Chances are that before long you will never get a tank for less than that.

I did manage to fuel up this morning. Although the fuel light was on, I had about 15l of fuel left, but it still cost me £51 to fill up my Mini.

The fuel protest is covered on page 2 of the Sunday Express, and it is supposed to be across the country at several refineries, but the guy at our local Shell had not been told to expect problems or to implement any special measures (such as limiting supply to each customer, for example).

I don't think about the price of petrol much, but I do think that it is not unreasonable to try and bring prices in line with Europe- although this is a good example of beating the "Europe" drum when it suits!

The last two times I filled up, it cost me over £80 a tank.

One tank lasts about a month - I always run it right down and then fill it to the brim. It has gone up about £1.25 a tank each month on average.
