A hacker has found a hole in Skype on OS X, which leaves the Mac vulnerable to malware through malicious file transfers. This has been patched by Skype, but unpatched users should update.

Why? They release other software for Mac (Messenger etc),

Of course, there's every possilibity Microsoft will ruin it.

If any version disappears, it will be the Linux one.

Well, they were bigging up the video advertising they want to pump down the pipes at their users. It's going to drive away advert haters as well.

If their Mac release of Skype is anything like Messenger for Mac, they might as well have not bothered at all...

While I am glad that these bugs are being brought to light, it does seem a little FUDy to be plastering this up five or more days after the news stories hit.
Last time I opened Skype it urged me to update. People who don't keep their software up to date get the same sympathy from me as those who don't backup their data...

Why on Earth is Microsoft buying Skype?

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/blogs/2011/05/10 ... ing-skype/

Because then security agencies won't have any more trouble with it? Actually, that's probably true to some extent

I cant see it being a great deal for Microsoft. They paid way too much for Skype. I can possibly see why it would be good for Apple, connecting to FaceTime but even so that would still be overpriced at that sum. Microsoft are a mature company and are struggling to find areas for futuire growth.
