Saw this article earlier today... Rome braces for 'prophet-predicted quake'...then this evening, 11th May, this... Deadly earthquake rocks Lorca in southern SpainNow, it's obvious to me that the date's just a coincidence, and OK, it's not Rome, but it got me thinking what are the chances that a prediction supposedly made in 1979 could be that close. Also... I'm sure there's nothing in it, but it just kind of freaked me out a little, I had to post it here to get your thoughts.

Every year (if not several times a year) we read about predictions of doom and gloom like this. The odds are that that one of them will match a real event eventually just by the law of probabilities. It never seems to stop people attributing it to a higher power (or aliens) though.

So a quake prediction that Rome will be devastated. A few buildings collapse in Spain. Spot on there, even though there are constant quakes around the world every day... It's a miracle!

I think he was having a laugh. Spend your life studying earthquakes and then predict one for many years after your death.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I also believe a prediction was made that yesterday a tsunami the biggest the world has ever seen was due to hit Taiwan.

Not reallty there are thousands of quakes every day, chances are that there will be some more today. The science has not progressed to that level yet. They can predict where the next quake along a fault will be with some degree of confidence, but not when. I am surprised that southern Spain has avoided a big quake considering that Africa is still moving northwards.

Well the biggest that the world has ever seen was more than 1800 ft high off Norway around 9000 years ago. There was a 900 ft tsunami in Alaska in the 1960's, caused by a landslide in a bay

Prediction was made in 1979? Well I guess the more years go buy, the more likely it is to happen since May 11th happens every year...

I think it was predicted for May 11, 2011. Sadly, someone at the HAARP array got the wrong co-ordinates...
